Jewel Staite is a Canadian actress born on June 2, 1982 in White Rock, British Columbia. She was the youngest of seven children, and began acting at the age of six. She later studied at the Vancouver Film School and worked at the Vancouver Youth Theatre while subsequently acting on film and television.
In 1991, Jewel Staite appeared in the film “Posing- Inspired by Three Stories.” She later had a role in the 1992 series “The Odyssey.” She made two movies in 1993, namely, “The Only Way Out” and “Liar, Liar- Between Father and Daughter.” in 1994, she had a guest role in “Are You Afraid of the Dark.”
While busy with television roles, Jewel Staite also had time for movies. She starred in the feature film “Gold Diggers- The Secret of Bear Mountain opposite Anna Chlumsky and Christina Ricci. She also had a brief stint on the TV series “The X-Files.”
Between the years 1996 and 2001, Jewel Staite became one of Canada's well known faces on television. Her most notable roles during this period include “Space Cases” and “Flash Forward,” where she was known as Becca Fisher.
In 1997 she had a role in the TV version of the hit movie “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”as Tiara Vanhorn. She also starred as Gabriella Da Vinci in “Da Vinci's Inquest.” Her other acting credits meanwhile include “So Weird,” “Higher Ground” and “Seven Days.”
Jewel Staite rose to popularity in 2002 when she starred in the sci-fi series “Firefly.” She reprised her role in 2005 in the “Firefly” movie, “Serenity.” She also had roles in “Just Deal” and the movie “Cheats.”
Jewel Staite's most recent projects include the role of Heidi Gotts in the series “Wonderfalls,” and as Dr. Jennifer Keller in “Stargate Atlantis.”
She is married to Matt Anderson since 2003.
